Context diagramContext diagram is a type of data flow diagram. But each is used at different level of abstraction.

The context diagram is used to show part of the scope of a project or a solution.

At the project level, when you describe the entities (people, systems...etc) interacting with the solution, you are showing the boundaries of the project.

On the second Tuesday of every month, Laura has a webinar talking about the BA career. I’ve always wanted to participate but due to lack of time, it’s been a challenge. This month, however, I was able to join and thought the topic was very appropriate for this month as I am getting ready to send out Chapter's door prize gifts.

Typically, Laura answers questions regarding Business Analysts resume, how to move up the BA career ladder, what are managers looking for in a BA… etc And this month, along with answering those questions, she talked about the benefits of being involved in the IIBA® chapters. She told the story of a lady who provided her time to volunteer in the definition and documentation of a process for her local chapter. After working with her, Laura was able to recommend her for a job that she had heard of later on.

After I received my CBAP® designation, it became easier for me to articulate the tasks and techniques of business analysis that I was proficient in. But even with the knowledge of the BABOK, I was never truly able to put my hands on what it takes to become a better Business Analyst until I read "The Promotable Business Analyst" by Laura Brandenburg.

All I can say is "WOW". Laura did a phenomenal job with breaking down all aspects of our profession. This allows more business analysts to better understand the profession and begin their journey towards making it better.

Step 1: Read the CBAP® Handbook. You want to understand the qualification for sitting for the certification. This handbook provides a thorough explanation on the experiences needed to qualify, the educational requirements... etc

Step 2: Begin documenting your work experience. This is the most challenging task as it requires that you look back 10 years and recall information about each of the projects you've worked on. You will need to remember the project name, description, hours worked on each projects, hours spend on business analysis tasks on each projects... etc

As some of you may already know, the CCBA® has officially been announced and the exam is coming out soon. This is a new IIBA® certification for competent business analysts.

Who is a competent business analyst?

A competent business analyst is one who has invested time to develop their business analysis skills and expertise but has not yet achieved the level of experience required to sit for the CBAP® exam.

This certification is great for developers who have performed business analysis tasks for a minimum amount of time, or quality assurance analysts, or any other professional who has performed some business analysis task in the last 7 years.
